If at first you don’t succeed
It was December 2012 and two other young top tenors and I were going to sing a song together in the Risca Male Choir themed Concerts. We were going to sing on a Friday and Saturday like we did every Friday and Saturday before Christmas. However on the first night we made so many mistakes,, we did not join together when we were meant to, I forgot my lines. It was a disastrous start to singing as a trio in Concert. However the next night we had a second chance to get it right and get it right we did. It was a great feeling because the night before I couldn’t sleep, I just wanted to go back on stage and get that song right, I just wanted us to go back and sing as well as I knew we could sing and the next night we got it right.
Some people apply for a job and they don’t do as well as they know they could have done and they give up all together. This experience has really served me well, when I did not succeed in an interview because I was unable to showcase my skills, I would be really hungry for another opportunity. However a lot of people will stop looking for opportunities because they will be afraid of failing. The night after the poor performance my hunger to get it right was bigger than the fear to fail again. Don’t focus on the fact that you failed, focus on the fact that you have learnt something from your failure and be hungry to get it right.
