Surround yourself with people who lift you up
A lot of people laughed at me when I set a goal to go to University Just after failing my high school exams. The class I was in after failing my exams was filled with all the people who had not done well in their exams so as you can imagine having a goal like mine made me a laughing stock in our class. I tried to spend a bit time with people who had done well in their exams so that I can learn from them but all they did was ridicule me, Very quickly I realised that if I was going to turn my life around I had to do it on my own until I found people who were on my side. So for the rest of that year soldered on my own, had lunch on my own, went to school on my own, I studied on my own. The following year was different, I found myself surrounded by friends who truly cared about me, I went from being the clown of the school to one of the most popular people in our class. My friends Anselm, Bryn and Gwyn lifted me up to another level, I don’t think I could have survived another two years of school without these three
I am so glad I learnt this lesson when i 18 years old, I see a lot of people spending a lot of time with people who bring no growth in their life whatsoever. Sometimes you have to take a chance to be what you want to be even though it might mean that you might be walking that path alone for a little while. I went through a year of pain and loneliness because I made a decision not spend time with people who put me down but to find people who will always lift me up. Today I have a writing mentor, a speaking mentor, a work mentor and a coaching mentor because I need people lift me up when I am down. Have you got people you can turn to when you need a lift me up? Who are they? What progress have you made because of having them in your life? Make sure that the people you spend time with are making your life better.
