Learning to be confident
Self-confidence is one thing I always struggled with as far as I can remember, having been picked on by my year one teacher and everyone in my class, self-confidence was to elude me for the next 18 years. A lot of people who have known me for years did not even realise that the simplest thing scared me, meeting knew people was one of the most scary thing for me because I always used to think people were always judging me. When I was in my third year of University, I realised that if I was to get the things I want in my life I had to become confident. I looked at the things that gave me real confidence, I realised that I was confident atsinging because I had been practicing everyday so i decided to do one new thing everyday that would give more confident. A few years later despite having low self-confidence I decided that I was going to become a motivational speaker and someone suggested that I should join Toastmasters. In Toastmasters I was able to improve my speaking skills and improved my self-confidence at the same time.
A lot of people think that confident people are naturally born confident but the truth a lot of people are confident because of what they can do. I used to try and build confidence from within but what I realised is that the more sills I developed the better I felt about myself and the better I felt about myself the more progress I made. Over the last couple years I have realised that confidence is what we think we can do or cannot do, here is the big thing, we can learn what we we don’t know. A few years ago I asked myself what I could do that very moment that would make me feel more confident and today I am going to ask you the same question. What can you do today that will help you to build more self-confidence?
